Responsibilities:Join our client's dynamic workshop team and take on a variety of exciting tasks! As an HGV Fitter Technician, your responsibilities will include maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy goods vehicles and refuse collection vehicles to ensure they operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with DVSA standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and repairs on HGVs and refuse collection vehicles.
  • Diagnose faults and perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs.
  • Complete MOT preparation and presentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and time spent.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Use diagnostic tools and interpret technical manuals and data.
  • Report potential vehicle faults and suggest preventative solutions.
  • Participate in breakdown recovery when required.
  • Keep the workshop clean and organised.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HGV Fitter or similar role.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of refuse vehicle body equipment (desirable).
  • Valid UK driving licence (HGV Class 2 preferred).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience working on HGVs is essential.
  • Fabrication experience would be a plus!

Additional Duties

  • Preparation of Hire Vehicles: Clean and inspect trucks, ensuring they are ready for hire, and repair any defects.
  • Vehicle Repairs: Work on chassis and refuse collection equipment for both our fleet and customers' vehicles.
  • Building New Equipment: Construct new refuse collection equipment.
  • Driving HGVs: Opportunity to drive HGVs if you hold a Class 2 licence.

  • Location: Leyland
  • Hours: 39 hours per week; Monday to Thursday 8 am - 5 pm, Friday 8 am - 4 pm
  • Pay: £17 to £18 per hour, depending on skill level
  • Overtime: Available
  • Uniform: Provided
