Salary: £13.50-£14.00 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week
Working Hours:
- Monday-Wednesday: 8am-3.30pm
- Thursday: 8am-3pm
- Friday: 8am-3.30pm
Role Overview
- Reporting to the Café Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality food while maintaining excellent standards of food safety and hygiene.
- A key element of this role is supporting and mentoring team members with learning disabilities, helping them develop skills, confidence, and independence within a professional catering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Preparation & Kitchen Operations
- Prepare, cook, and present meals and baked goods to a consistent, high standard.
- Assist with menu planning and contribute creative ideas for specials, seasonal dishes, and events.
- Monitor portion control, stock rotation, and food waste to ensure efficient kitchen performance.
- Maintain accurate kitchen records including temperature logs and allergen information.
- Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, safety, and environmental health regulations.
- Manage deliveries and ensure proper storage of all ingredients.
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 Catering and Hospitality (or equivalent, e.g. City & Guilds).
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety procedures including COSHH and HACCP.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Understanding of the barriers experienced by people with learning disabilities.
- A positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and flexible approach.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Desirable
- Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).
- Experience working with adults with learning disabilities
