Salary: £13.50-£14.00 per hour

Hours: 37 hours per week

Working Hours:

  • Monday-Wednesday: 8am-3.30pm
  • Thursday: 8am-3pm
  • Friday: 8am-3.30pm

Role Overview

  • Reporting to the Café Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality food while maintaining excellent standards of food safety and hygiene.
  • A key element of this role is supporting and mentoring team members with learning disabilities, helping them develop skills, confidence, and independence within a professional catering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation & Kitchen Operations
  • Prepare, cook, and present meals and baked goods to a consistent, high standard.
  • Assist with menu planning and contribute creative ideas for specials, seasonal dishes, and events.
  • Monitor portion control, stock rotation, and food waste to ensure efficient kitchen performance.
  • Maintain accurate kitchen records including temperature logs and allergen information.
  • Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, safety, and environmental health regulations.
  • Manage deliveries and ensure proper storage of all ingredients.

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 Catering and Hospitality (or equivalent, e.g. City & Guilds).
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety procedures including COSHH and HACCP.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Understanding of the barriers experienced by people with learning disabilities.
  • A positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and flexible approach.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.

Desirable

  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities
