Opal Personnel is currently working with a well-established veterinary clinic in Launceston, Cornwall, United Kingdom, who are looking for a Head Veterinary Nurse (HVN) to join their team on a permanent basis. The practice prides itself on delivering high-quality veterinary care with a compassionate approach. They offer a wide range of services, including general veterinary care, surgery, diagnostics, and preventive care. As part of their growth, they are seeking an experienced HVN to lead and mentor their nursing team.

The Role:

As the Head Veterinary Nurse, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing the nursing team and ensuring the smooth running of clinical operations. You will lead by example, providing excellent patient care, managing the nursing rota, and working closely with the veterinary surgeons and practice management to maintain high clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and support the veterinary nursing team, fostering a positive working environment
  • Manage the nursing rota to ensure adequate cover for surgeries, consultations, and in-patient care
  • Assist in clinical procedures, including surgeries and diagnostics
  • Provide training and development opportunities for the nursing team
  • Ensure high standards of patient care and maintain accurate clinical records
  • Participate in practice meetings and collaborate on improving clinic workflows and patient services
  • Engage in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to stay updated on the latest veterinary nursing practices

Requirements:

  • Qualified and registered with the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons)
  • Previous experience in a leadership or senior veterinary nursing role
  • Minimum of 5 years experience at a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team
  • A proactive and organised approach to managing day-to-day clinical operations
  • A commitment to providing high-quality patient care and client service

What’s On Offer:

  • Competitive salary, £32,500-£34,500, dependent on experience
  • Over 4 days per week
  • OOH rota - 1 week in 7 (Friday - Tuesday 8pm-8am)
  • Weekend Day Shift (Saturday + Sunday 8am -8pm) 1 weekend in 10
  • RCVS, VDS cover and BVNA membership paid for
  • CPD allowance; fully encouraged and all requests considered
  • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays) pro-rata
