Overview:

Our client, an independent and well-established freight forwarder, is seeking an experienced Import Customs Clerk to lead their Sea Freight Customs team in Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with strong import experience and leadership skills to step into a pivotal role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with overseas agents, customers, and hauliers.
  • Advise customers on cargo arrivals into the UK.
  • Supervise and coach junior team members.
  • Oversee and resolve any issues that may arise in the customs process.
  • Receive and process pre-alerts from overseas agents.
  • Create and maintain import files both manually and digitally.
  • Handle customs clearance procedures and train team members in compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate deliveries.
  • Consolidate shipments effectively.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Demonstrated start-to-finish sea freight import experience.
  • Strong customs compliance knowledge (highly desirable).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient IT skills – experience using freight systems.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Previous supervisory/team leader experience is essential.
