Our client is a reputable law firm specializing in Civil Litigation, serving clients across various sectors. We are now seeking a skilled Costs Draftsperson to join their busy, growing and successful team.

Costs Draftsperson

Liverpool or Manchester hybrid work from home model with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote.

£40-45K plus excellent benefits package.

To be successful in this role:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Civil Litigation and experience in drafting accurate and comprehensive cost schedules along with previous experience as a Costs Draftsperson or similar role within a legal environment. Other requirements for this role include:

Strong understanding of Civil Litigation processes and procedures

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting cost schedules and bill

Effective negotiation skills with the ability to resolve disputes and reach mutually beneficial agreements

Proficiency in legal billing software and Microsoft Office Suite

Knowledge of relevant legal regulations and guidelines governing costs and billing practices

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job role and responsibilities:

As a Costs Draftsperson, you will play a crucial role by managing all aspects of costs related to legal claims. This includes drafting bills, schedules, and negotiating costs with third parties. Other responsibilities for this role include:

Costs Management: prepare detailed schedules of costs for legal claims, including running costs, disbursements, solicitors' fees, expert witness costs, and medical costs

Billing: Create cost schedules to bill third parties in the event of a successful claim outcome, ensuring accurate and appropriate billing practices

Negotiation: Negotiate costs with third parties, including solicitors' fees and disbursements, to ensure fair and reasonable compensation for our firm

End-to-End Management: Manage costs from the initial stages of the claim through to the invoicing process, handling both solicitors' bills and compensatory claims

Dispute Resolution: In the event of an unsuccessful claim outcome, negotiate fees and costs with third parties while adhering to legal regulations and guidelines

Documentation: Prepare comprehensive bills of costs and other relevant documentation for submission to third parties and regulatory bodies

Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant legal regulations and guidelines governing costs and billing practices
