We are looking for a skilled Fibre Engineer to join a high-profile rail telecoms team. This is an excellent career development opportunity for someone looking to progress quickly into a lead engineer role.
The engineer will work under the guidance of the Lead Installation & Test Engineer or PICOT, supporting the installation, testing, validation, and commissioning of fibre systems.
Key Responsibilities of the Fibre Engineer;

Perform fibre installation, OTDR & insertion loss testing, verification, and validation activities under guidance.

Support the implementation of testing strategies, commissioning plans, and migration plans.

Identify and apply best practices in installation, testing, and commissioning.

Ensure compliance with telecoms testing standards and safety procedures, submitting reports, site logs, and fault forms as required.

Assist with investigations into technical incidents and deferred test logs.

Contribute to project close-out reports and health & safety file submissions.

Share knowledge, provide mentorship, and support continuous improvement within the team.
Requirements of the Fibre Engineer;

Extensive OTDR & insertion loss testing experience.

Strong fault-finding and remedial skills.

Understanding of full project life cycle: installation, testing, remedials, commissioning.

Supervision experience (SSSTS/SMSTS) to lead teams effectively.

Experience with single fibre & ribbon fibre and interpretation of SLDs / AFC pack drawings.

Accurate record-keeping: site diaries, test logs, and reports.

Fast Reporter 3 experience (beneficial).

City & Guilds Fibre Certification (3667 or 3668).

PTS certification desirable; COSS certification desirable.

Full UK driving licence.

Railway experience is advantageous.
