Responsibilities and duties of the Engineering Manager role

Reporting to the Head of UK Operations - Biofuels, you will:

  • Lead and oversee a portfolio of engineering projects across multiple sites, ensuring delivery to agreed timeframes, safety standards, and budgets.
  • Manage and mentor a team of Project Engineers, supporting their technical growth and professional development.
  • Monitor project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain accurate reporting across all project phases.
  • Champion high standards of health & safety, ensuring all engineering activity aligns with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Take ownership of process safety activities, including chairing or contributing to HAZOPs, Process Hazard Reviews, and LOPA assessments.
  • Control engineering budgets, contribute to annual CAPEX planning, and ensure resources are allocated effectively.
  • Produce concise updates, reports, and performance summaries as required by senior leadership.
  • Work closely with Operations and Terminal Managers to identify, scope, and execute improvements across production, storage, and processing assets

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects
  • Strong working knowledge of process safety principles, including hazardous area classification, HAZOP, LOPA, and PHR methodologies.
  • A solid grasp of UK health, safety and environmental legislation - NEBOSH General Certificate desirable.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks such as PSSR, DSEAR and standards relating to plant and equipment integrity.
