Day-to-Day Duties

  • Design and produce detailed CAD drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Liaise with clients, attend site visits, and carry out detailed site surveys.
  • Prepare quotations with strong commercial awareness, ensuring value for money.
  • Provide mechanical design input to meet project requirements, time-lines, and quality standards.
  • Act as a project engineer when required, managing design, procurement, and site liaison.
  • Create cost estimates, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Select appropriate machines and tooling for cost-effective part manufacture.
  • Raise purchase orders and manage procurement of project parts.
  • Ensure adherence to quality procedures and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Transfer knowledge of SolidWorks and Microsoft Office to team members where required.

Essential Skills

  • Strong SolidWorks and AutoCAD design capability.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload effectively.
  • Highly organised, methodical, and detail-oriented.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to prepare accurate quotations.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Confident liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience acting as a project engineer with full responsibility for work packages.
  • Previous exposure to material handling design, including platforms, barriers, cages, and stairs.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines within a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to take on changing priorities.
