This role calls for a Mechanical Design Engineer who can effectively conceptualise, design, and implement innovative solutions for modular steel structures. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and some electrical engineering principles.

Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Design modular steel frames using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor).
  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to understand and translate project requirements into engineering solutions.
  • Conduct structural calculations and basic FEA to validate designs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, BS5950, BS EN 1090).
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the integration of other systems into frames, including electrical and HVAC components.

Profile

Essential Skills:
  • Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software - SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience designing steel structures or modular frames.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication processes, materials, and welding standards.
  • Understanding of structural mechanics and load path design.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation to support manufacturing and compliance.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 quality standards.
  • Experience working within the modular building or container conversion industries.
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Familiarity with project management tools or systems.
  • Site experience or exposure to manufacturing environments.
