Interim Senior Project Manager - Schools Improvement Programme

Location: Merseyside - Hybrid (2-3 days a week in office)

Contract: Interim/ongoing

Day Rate: Circa 475 per day

Our client, a local authority in the North West, is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering their 2026 Schools Improvement Programme. This programme will include approximately 20 projects, with a total value of around 4m, covering refurbishments, services replacement, external repairs, extensions, and internal space improvements.

Reporting to the Head of Service, you will lead on developing and implementing the pipeline for the 2026 programme, ensuring projects are aligned to budget, stakeholder priorities, and school needs. You will manage 1 FTE Senior PM, oversee the term consultancy contract, and be responsible for producing reports and recommendations to Cabinet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop prioritisation methodology based on AMP data and building condition surveys.
  • Engage with stakeholders, members, schools, dioceses, and professional advisers.
  • Prepare Cabinet reports and recommendations for the 2026 programme.
  • Manage consultants to deliver design and tender packages.
  • Establish the delivery programme for 2026.
  • Provide schools with asset management advice and support.
  • Lead on reporting of the annual capital programme and ensure accurate updates in AMP systems.
  • Support the overall management and delivery of the Liverpool Schools Programme.

About You

  • Qualification in the built environment (e.g., Architect, Building Surveyor, Building Services Engineer).
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., RICS).
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering education construction projects to critical timescales.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Understanding of public sector processes, DfE funding, and Building Bulletins.
