Your new role

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their commercial team. You will be responsible for managing cost estimation, procurement, and contractual oversight from tender through to project completion. The role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder management, and a proactive approach to delivering value and maintaining high standards throughout each project lifecycle.



Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing accurate cost estimates, BOQs, and quantity take-offs from tender stage through to completion.

  • Analysing drawings and project documentation to manage budgets and highlight cost-saving opportunities.

  • Managing the procurement process including preparing tender documents, contractor selection, and contract negotiation.

  • Sourcing and securing subcontractors, suppliers, and services while fostering strong commercial relationships.

  • Administering contracts, managing variations, processing claims, and assisting in dispute resolution.

  • Monitoring contract performance and advising internal teams on progress and compliance.

  • Identifying and mitigating financial risks while implementing value engineering strategies.

  • Producing regular and accurate financial reports including forecasts, cost tracking, and final accounts.

  • Collaborating effectively with design consultants, contractors, and clients to align deliverables with project objectives.

  • Maintaining detailed project records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.



What you will need to succeed:

  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator, or Commercial Manager within the construction sector.

  • Solid knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and current building regulations.

  • Strong understanding of standard forms of contract including JCT, NEC3, and NEC4.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with tools such as CostX, Asta Project, or Primavera is advantageous.

  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to attend site visits as required.

  • A proactive mindset with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
