Job Overview:

We are looking for a strategic and highly skilled Tax Director to lead our client's tax function. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing tax strategies, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations, and optimising the group’s overall tax position across the UK and, where relevant, internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of the UK tax function, including corporate tax, VAT, employment taxes, and other indirect taxes.

  • Develop and execute tax strategy aligned with business objectives and growth plans.

  • Oversee compliance processes to ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and payments.

  • Manage tax risk, governance, and internal controls in line with best practice and regulatory expectations.

  • Advise senior leadership on the tax implications of business decisions, transactions, and restructurings.

  • Oversee transfer pricing policies, documentation, and compliance.

  • Lead tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, disposals, and other corporate projects.

  • Manage relationships with HMRC, external advisors, and auditors.

  • Ensure accurate tax accounting under applicable standards (e.g., IFRS/UK GAAP), including deferred tax and uncertain tax positions.

  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and proactively assess business impact.

  • Develop and mentor a high-performing in-house tax team.

  • Drive process improvements and technology adoption in the tax function.

Key Requirements:

  • ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Extensive experience in UK corporate tax, with exposure to indirect taxes and international tax issues.

  • Proven track record of tax leadership in a large corporate or Big 4 environment.

  • Strong technical knowledge of UK tax legislation and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Commercially aware, with the ability to provide practical business-oriented advice.

  • High level of integrity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving ability.

Desirable:

  • Multi-sector experience would be beneficial..

  • Exposure to global tax planning and cross-border issues.

  • Familiarity with tax technology and data analytics.
