Financial Accountant
Full-time | Permanent | Hybrid (London)
Salary: 47,000 - 53,000 + benefits
An established, mission-driven charitable organisation is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its Finance team. You'll play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and process improvement while contributing to work that addresses UK wide challenges.
The role
As Financial Accountant, you will be the custodian of the general ledger, support month-end processing, maintain the finance system, prepare statutory accounts, and manage audit processes. You'll ensure regulatory compliance (including UK tax and VAT), provide technical accounting advice, and strengthen internal controls.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing monthly management accounts, statutory financial statements, and audit schedules
- Managing VAT compliance, including partial exemption and cross-border transactions
- Overseeing cash flow forecasting and treasury management
- Reconciling donor income, restricted funds, and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare statutory financial statements complying with appropriate reporting GAAP
- Driving process improvements and supporting finance system upgrades
- Providing guidance to non-finance staff on VAT and financial procedures
About you
You are a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) with experience in financial accounting, preferably in the charity, non-profit, or international development sector. You have:
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP/Charities SORP)
- Proven VAT expertise, including complex and international scenarios
- Experience in audit preparation, statutory reporting and year-end accounts
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to communicate clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences
