An urgent requirement for a suitably qualified Financial Controller to manage and oversee the daily operations of the finance department for this highly successful Independent School. This pivotal role includes financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance activities, aimed at providing accurate financial information to support decision-making across the school. The Financial Controller will work closely with the Bursar and budget holders to ensure financial stability and growth, aligning financial operations with the school's strategic goals.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage the school’s annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the Bursar and department heads.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and ad hoc financial reports.
  • Assist with cash flow management and coordinate external audits.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger management.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and relevant financial regulations.
  • Supervise and support finance team staff in processing daily transactions and reconciliations.
  • Manage insurance claims, fee refunds, and oversee tuition billing and collection.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights for strategic planning, including capital projects and investment opportunities.
  • Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA).
  • Significant experience in management and financial accounting, preferably within a school environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and financial modelling.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with staff, parents, and external parties effectively.
  • Knowledge of accounting software, VAT, payroll practices, and pension regulations.
