A high-growth, start-up legal firm is currently seeking a Financial Controller to lead and manage the finance function. The focus of this role will be establishing accounting and reporting processes, controls and partnering with founders and senior leadership to support on forward planning and strategy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Growing, hiring and management of the finance team including their recruitment, training, development, goal setting and performance measurement.
  • Partner with senior leadership on commercial decision-making, strategy, and business planning.
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements are met in line with the Solicitors Accounts Rules, including review of static client balances.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly commission calculations in respect of consultancy agreements.
  • Develop finance processes, accounting and reporting to ensure smooth running of the finance function including the management accounts process including variance analysis.
  • Administration and control of the global banking and cash flow management and forecasting.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and of forecasts during the financial year.
  • Review of Europe bank reconciliations.
  • Oversee production of the Annual Report and Financial Statements for all relevant entities.
  • Assist in the management and development of systems, including leading on potential system implementation.
  • Additional ad hoc work including projects, reporting and analysis to support the wider team and business.

The successful candidates will be professionally qualified (ACA / ACCA) with relevant practical experience, preferable working within the legal sector or professional services environment - with knowledge of SRA. The role requires someone with strong technical knowledge and good business acumen, with the ability to implement strategy and contribute to the forward planning and growth of the business. Ideally candidates will have experience working in a start-up/ SME environment, implementing and automating processes. This is a pivotal management position and requires an individual with strong, proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team.
