Overview:

A global financial services group with a strong international footprint is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Business Partner to join its London-based tax function. This is a high-impact, hybrid role that blends strategic business partnering with hands-on compliance oversight, particularly across VAT and insurance premium tax (IPT). The successful candidate will lead a small team and play a key role in transforming the tax function through data, technology, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Partnering & Advisory

  • Act as the go-to advisor for indirect tax matters across the business.
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional initiatives, embedding tax considerations into broader business decisions.
  • Build strong relationships across finance, operations, and upstream data teams to ensure accurate and timely tax inputs.
  • Influence stakeholders to improve data quality and implement robust control frameworks.
  • Present insights and updates to senior leadership and governance forums.

Compliance & Operational Oversight

  • Oversee VAT and IPT compliance across multiple jurisdictions, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage and mentor a team of three, supporting their development and performance.
  • Own indirect tax general ledger accounts and ensure alignment with financial reporting.
  • Stay current on global tax legislation and assess its impact on the business.
  • Contribute to the design and testing of tax controls and risk mitigation strategies.

Technology & Process Improvement

  • Champion the use of technology, automation, and AI to streamline tax processes.
  • Collaborate with finance and change teams to align tax operations with broader transformation goals.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and enhance data integrity.


What We're Looking For:

  • Qualifications: ACA or CTA qualified with 5+ years post-qualification experience.
  • Experience: Background in either practice or industry. Exposure to financial services or insurance is a plus, but not essential.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of UK VAT and IPT; understanding of partial exemption and global indirect tax regimes.
  • Data Savvy: Comfortable working with imperfect data and legacy systems; able to identify gaps and drive improvements.
  • Mindset: Commercially aware, proactive, and solutions focused. A self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust across functions.
  • Tech Curious: Interest in leveraging new technologies (e.g., GenAI) to improve outcomes.


Additional Info:

  • Occasional international travel may be required for oversight and collaboration with regional teams.
  • Interviews are expected to begin in early June and will follow a two-stage process.
