My client is currently seeking a dedicated Legal Cashier to join their finance team on a 6-month FTC, working closely with the Cashiering Manager, Junior Cashier, and Accounts Payable. This role is crucial for managing routine cashiering tasks, primarily focusing on the client account, and providing cover for other team members in their absence.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Ensure compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules and report any breaches to the Cashiering Manager.
  • Conduct daily bank reconciliations for both office and client accounts, and review reconciliations when the Cashiering Manager is absent.
  • Review the client account daily, identifying and allocating receipts, and transferring funds to the office account.
  • Process CHAPS/BACS transactions and post to the client and office ledgers.
  • Handle transfers of time, disbursements, and expenses between matters, ensuring all are completed within SLA time frames.
  • Process journals on the client account, office account, and the nominal ledger.
  • Perform manual interest calculations on client account balances and credit interest to the client account.
  • Maintain special time rates and manage aged client account balances.
  • Liaise with fee earners to resolve accounting queries.
  • Manage billing processes, including posting of bills and credit notes in compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Handle day-to-day internal billing queries and process anticipated disbursements.
  • Prepare reconciliations and statistical information for clients.
  • Edit and reverse timesheets, converting time to non-chargeable as necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 3-4 years’ experience in legal cashiering within a busy multi-partner legal practice.
  • Detailed knowledge of the SRA accounts rules.
  • A relevant qualification (or study towards it) from the Institute of Legal Finance and Management or equivalent is desirable.
  • High computer literacy, particularly in Excel, and a working knowledge of financial systems associated with billing and cashiering.
  • Strong understanding of the accounts function and the importance of completing each part of the process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a 'willing to go the extra mile' attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

The role will be 3 days in the office and 2 from home. 9.30am-5.30pm
