Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be partnering with a world-renowned art gallery to recruit an experienced and highly capable Building Manager. This is a rare opportunity to take a leading role in managing the facilities and infrastructure of an iconic cultural institution, ensuring an exceptional environment for visitors, staff, and the collection alike.

You will oversee the operational management of a historic and high-profile building, lead a skilled facilities team, and be responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of maintenance, safety and compliance.

About the Role

  • Permanent, full-time position based in Central London.
  • Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per annum, with annual pay review.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all building and facilities operations including security, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Lead on building compliance, ensuring statutory and health & safety obligations are met.
  • Oversee capital projects, refurbishments, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Maintain and manage essential systems (HVAC, lighting, fire safety, etc).
  • Liaise with internal teams and external contractors, providing expert technical advice.
  • Support planning and logistics for public and private events.
  • Develop and manage budgets related to building operations and facilities.

Person Specification:

  • Proven experience in building or facilities management in a complex or heritage environment.
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance, health & safety regulations, and risk assessment.
  • Confident leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to collaborate across departments.
  • Proficient in the use of BMS and CAFM systems.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is highly desirable.
  • Experience working within a cultural, public sector, or charitable organisation is advantageous.
