An R&D analytical chemist is urgently required to join an expanding analytical team to work on the development of new and existing products; writing suitable trial proposals, progress reports and final reports.You will work with the technical manager and a strong analytical team to help in the design and improvement of processes with the writing of suitable documentation to support this function.

Key Responsibilities

  • As R&D chemist contribute and lead research projects to aid and improve the function of the company.
  • Use ICP and other analytical skills for e.g., analysis (IC, ICP LC, GC-MS).
  • Writing appropriate project COSHH risk assessments and general risk assessments to ensure safe working through-out any given project.
  • Assist the Technical Management Team in process troubleshooting, using suitable project work.
  • Assist in customer support activities including customer complaints and troubleshooting.
  • Where required, support the Laboratory in analysis of samples.
  • Investigate, study and research process raw materials and final product; develop and maintain a suitable documentation.
  • Carrying out analytical projects, producing suitable reports on completion. These projects are to help with analytical, process trouble-shooting and new product introductions.
  • Storing and monitoring appropriate samples.
  • The regular and routine calibration of instruments and equipment in accordance with the prescribed techniques and frequency. The main focus will be on instruments related to the R&D team.
  • Carry out detailed Analytical Projects, as requested by the Assistant Technical Manager, to gain an improved understanding of process behaviour. Write suitable trial proposals and progress reports to provide information to laboratory management and production personnel when appropriate.
  • Calibration and Standardisation of appropriate equipment, mainly related to R&D activities.
  • Review of current and development of new analytical test methods if required.
  • Assisting quality control in the lab as required.
  • Through an in-depth knowledge of product and reagent safety information ensure adequate protection for yourself, others and the workplace environment.
  • Train all relevant staff on the application of newly developed methods

Training could be given to an exceptional graduate with a chemistry degree.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree Chemistry
  • A level in Maths and Chemistry preferred
  • Commercial / industrial experience preferred
  • Experience or understanding of inorganic analytical techniques e.g., IC, ICP GC-MS XRF etc –

from a university project or experience.

  • Strong analytical chemistry and laboratory techniques
