Our client is a fast-scaling, cross-border payment service provider (PSP) helping merchants process card and alternative payments globally. Backed by strong investors and processing millions in daily volume, theyre entering a high-growth phase to hit a billion annual transactions and a £300M+ valuation in the near term.

We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager with deep knowledge of credit card merchant acquiring to lead our efforts in acquiring and scaling relationships with high-value merchants. You will play a critical role in developing our UK and EMEA commercial footprint, with a focus on acquiring customers who process large volumes of Visa, Mastercard, and Amex payments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, early-stage environments and is ready to build from 0?1.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a merchant acquisition strategy targeting cross-border card payment volumes.
  • Build and manage relationships with enterprise and mid-market merchants.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and optimise pricing for card processing (Visa, Mastercard, Amex).
  • Act as the subject matter expert on merchant acquiring, advising internal teams on product, compliance, and operational needs.
  • Leverage your network within PSPs, banks, and FS institutions to source strategic leads.
  • Help shape the go-to-market strategy and value proposition for our acquiring services.
  • Work closely with founders and leadership to drive revenue and gross profit targets

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong background in merchant acquiring, PSPs, or card payment infrastructure
  • Deep understanding of card scheme processing and interchange dynamics.
  • Established network across merchants, payment partners, and financial institutions.
  • Proven ability to grow commercial functions in start-up or scale-up environments.
  • Comfortable working autonomously, without layers of management or corporate structure.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, capable of wearing multiple hats and adapting quickly.F
