Quest Search & Selection are currently partnering with a leading retail eCommerce platform, specialised in consumer goods and food delivery. Offering an extensive range of products including household essentials, medication, pet care, office supplies, beauty, groceries, and even fresh prepared food!

This global business is going through growth and is keen to look for an individual for a new appointment, who has been part of a startup/scale up with an astute, analytical mindset they can deliver via their team in a hands-on environment.

Key responsibilities of this Director of Commercial Growth - (Tech Scale up)

  • Heads up an established team of Category , Supply Chain & analytical experts (circa of 5-7 people) and taking full P&L responsibility of their trading business.
  • Leading the curation of the product range by identifying the optimal number of products, ranges and category allocations.
  • Still being in the data to conduct thorough analyses of daily and weekly trade patterns, identifying deviations from expectations and proposing hypotheses for further validation.
  • Being hands-on - monitor competitive price indices and implement pricing policies accordingly & being reactive where needed.
  • Manage relationships with key accounts, ensuring adherence to cost prices, promotional activities, and service standards (whether this is with suppliers or wholesalers directly).
  • Negotiate deals with key accounts and regional exclusives.
  • You must operate in Owner Mode, (this is a scale up where you will be working with founders daily). You will need to be 'all in' embracing full responsibility.
  • Maintain balance between range expansion, product availability and minimising waste.
  • Provide insights into algorithmic buying decisions and A/B tests to optimise availability
  • Manage efficiency and inventory fullness.
  • Act as the main point of contact with the central distribution, at SLT meetings
  • Develop strategies for in-app merchandising to consistently showcase the product range in alignment with the value proposition.

Key requirements of this Director of Commercial Growth - (Tech Scale up) -

  • This is more about the individual rather you experience, first and foremost you must consider someone who operates in Owner Mode. Meaning you are with your people, you make decisions and you own it and you consider yourself connect to the business needs at all time.
  • You may come from an Investment banking background (Senior Associate or above) or consulting background or another Tech business (either start-up/scale-up) where you are driving the Commercials, Growth and the P&L.
  • Also keen to consider candidates form an eCommerce/Retail Food or Q-commerce business.
  • The business will not shy away from someone who has built their own business or worked in an early-stage start-up /scale ups - having an entrepreneur mind set is key!
  • That you have led teams at an intense pace and speed but still hands on with in driving the strategy and being involved in reactive and strategic decision making.
  • You must be a data-savvy, analytical individual that provides the foundations of your decision making.
  • Ideally that you have managed P&L responsibility or shown incremental growth in your business. (This business is circa 100 - 200 million turnover).
  • Good communication skills and eye to detail.
  • High calibre educational background (MBA level ideally) or have a Bachelors degree or equivalent from a top university (UK or internationally)
  • High level Excel and Microsoft Office experience.
