Clerk of Works – Project DeliveryLocation: West LondonSector : Local Authority | Capital Projects, Place DepartmentFull-time | Temporary ContractDuration: 12 Weeks (potential for extension)Day rate: £350-£400An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Clerk of Works to join our Capital Projects team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that all construction activity associated with our highways and infrastructure projects is delivered to specification, on time, and to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.RoleReporting to the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day inspection and monitoring of works on site. This includes supervising contractors and utility providers, carrying out site inspections, and ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and local authority standards. You will work across a broad range of projects, from minor works to major highways and public realm schemes, contributing directly to the successful delivery of the Council’s capital programme.Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor all on-site construction activities to ensure they meet design specifications, health and safety requirements, and relevant legislation
  • Supervise contractors and ensure work is delivered in line with the Council’s Streetsmart Design Guide and agreed drawings
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and progress reviews; prepare detailed inspection reports and records
  • Verify that all works comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and the Traffic Management Act 2004
  • Ensure the correct implementation of traffic management systems, signage, and carriageway markings in accordance with relevant regulations and Traffic Management Orders
  • Liaise with internal teams, developers, and statutory undertakers to ensure coordination and avoid conflicts in the delivery of works
  • Support Project Engineers with progress tracking, snagging, site assessments, and the review of contractor performance against KPIs
  • Assist in change management processes and the resolution of site-related issues and defects
  • Check CAD drawings, as-built records, and specifications for compliance prior to implementation and on completion
  • Maintain comprehensive site records including photographs, delivery notes, and daily logs
  • Ensure environmental considerations are adhered to throughout project delivery
Your skillsWe are seeking a professional with a strong background in highways and construction project delivery, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment.
  • Proven experience in site supervision or Clerk of Works roles within highways, civil engineering, or public infrastructure
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant UK legislation, including:
? The Highways Act 1980? New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA)? Traffic Management Act 2004? Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015? Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984? Town and Country Planning Act 1990
  • A good understanding of codes of practice, statutory instruments, and highway construction standards
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and traffic management plans
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and accurate reports
  • Experience in coordinating with contractors, developers, and stakeholders on complex projects
