Highways Development Control Officer
This role plays a key part in the statutory planning process, supporting the timely and effective management of an increasing caseload of planning application consultations.
You will be responsible for assessing development proposals from a highways perspective, providing professional recommendations, and working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to support sustainable and compliant development.
Key Responsibilities
路 Respond to planning application consultations within statutory deadlines using a computerised case management system.
路 Undertake technical highway assessments of development proposals.
路 Assess and review Transport Assessments and Travel Plans.
路 Provide clear, professional recommendations as part of the development control process.
路 Liaise with external developers, designers, and consultants.
路 Work collaboratively with internal Highways, Engineering, and Planning teams.
路 Ensure compliance with relevant Highways and Planning legislation, policies, and standards.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
路 Previous experience in Highways Development Control.
路 Strong knowledge of the Highways Act and Planning legislation.
路 Local Authority experience.
路 Understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements and procedures.
路 Experience assessing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans.
路 Access to your own vehicle for travel around the borough.
Desirable:
路 Experience managing a high volume of planning consultations.
路 Strong written and verbal communication skills.
路 Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
