Our client in the rail sector is looking to recruit a CNC machinist for the track workshop at Lillie Bridge Depot (near Hammersmith). This depot produces components to be used across the London Underground network and the work can be varied depending on demand from LU.
Role details:
CNC Miller Programmer/Setter:
• Be able to Program, Set & operate Using Heidenhain controls (Essential)
• Experience with Fanuc controls.
CNC Machinist
We have a great opportunity for a CNC Machinist/Turner to manufacture finished goods and machined components of the right quality, quantity and by the client's required delivery dates.
Key Accountabilities:
- To manufacture items and make, modify or repair components.
- To set and operate a full range of plant and equipment including: saws, drills, milling machines & if appropriate, centre lathes, planers, CNC machine tools and any other machines.
- To assist/train other staff in the production of work as required.
- To complete all paperwork and reports as required.
- To ensure that the work area and all plant and equipment are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
- To use measuring instruments, gauges and to interpret calculations and readings from the same.
- To manufacture and sharpen cutting tools.
- To carry out general housekeeping without direction.
- To maintain records of previous work and tag finished components for inspection.
- To prepare numerical control part programmes and to install the same onto relevant machines along with appropriate tool memories, tooling and fixtures.
- To check and maintain machine for extraction, coolants, oils and lubricants.
- To index or change carbide tips in sufficient time to maintain quality of output.
Safety Accountabilities:
- Ensure that all activities and changes to equipment or process comply with all relevant safety and legal requirements.
- Ensure that the planning of testing and trial activities includes the identification ofappropriate risks and standards.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
All of the below are essential unless stated desirable
Skills
- Ability to read, understand and comply with Engineering Drawings and specifications for machining
- Ability to machine materials, to specification, using appropriate tools to maintain quality and complying with the relevant safety procedures.
- Ability to manufacture products with or without specification.
- Ability to clean, oil and lubricate machines using appropriate methods.
- Ability to operate electric overhead cranes safely.
- Ability to carry out the full range of Workshop calculations.
- Ability to inspect material and judge its quality for use.
- Ability to save and record amendments, failures of part programmes and report them to the System Manager (Tool and Plant Engineer).
- Ability to inspect finished components to specification.
- Ability to read, understand and comply with requirements of the Quality Plan.
- Ability to carry out programming and prove out of components on CNC machine tools.
- Must undergo an LU medical and drug and alcohol test.
Knowledge & Experience
- Must have served an Engineering apprenticeship and/or have the technical knowledge and relevant production skills to set and operate a wide range of machine tools to manufacture items to a high standard form complex drawings or specifications.
- Experience of programming and setting CNC, NC or equivalent machines is an essential requirement of the job.
