Technical Supervisor (Electrical Bias) - Building Maintenance

Location: City of London, UK

Salary: £65,000

Monday - Friday: 8am - 5pm

The Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Supervisor with a strong electrical background to oversee and coordinate building maintenance activities at one of our prestigious sites in the heart of the City of London. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of all building services, with a particular focus on electrical systems. You will lead a team of maintenance technicians and contractors, ensuring high standards of workmanship and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the building maintenance team, including electricians, plumbers, and general maintenance staff.
  • Prioritise and allocate maintenance tasks effectively, ensuring timely completion and minimal disruption to building occupants.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults and issues, providing technical expertise and guidance to the team.
  • Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules for all building services, particularly electrical installations, ensuring adherence to manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Manage and monitor the performance of external contractors, ensuring they meet agreed-upon standards and service level agreements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs using relevant software and systems.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance procedures and best practices.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary tools, equipment, and materials for the maintenance team.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to reactive maintenance requests and emergencies.
  • Contribute to the development and management of maintenance budgets.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting communication and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory regulations, including electrical safety standards and building codes.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and provide updates on maintenance activities and challenges.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Recognised electrical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365, NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent).
  • Essential: Proven experience in a supervisory role within a building maintenance environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in diagnosing, fault-finding, and repairing a wide range of electrical systems in commercial buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of current electrical regulations (BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations).
  • Excellent understanding of planned preventative maintenance principles and practices.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating external contractors.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and IT systems.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Further qualifications in building services or management.
  • Experience with other building services, such as HVAC, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to building maintenance.
  • First Aid certification.
