**Platform VBA Engineer** (Contract)
Duration: Up until 31 May 2026 (Possibility for extension)
Location: Hybrid/London (2 - 3 days per week)
Rate: A highly competitive Umbrella Day Rate is available for suitable candidates
Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Platform VBA & Microsoft Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Platform team. This critical role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, monitor, and operate the Platform environment, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
- Manage incidents and support tickets, ensuring prompt resolution and escalation to Senior Engineers when necessary.
- Proactively monitor and enhance platform environments by addressing system alerts and issues.
- Develop and maintain VBA scripts and tools that automate operational tasks and streamline reporting workflows.
- Collaborate with SREs and infrastructure teams to identify reliability gaps and design automation solutions.
- Enhance Excel-based dashboards for performance, availability, and incident metrics.
- Integrate VBA tools with external data sources, such as APIs and databases, for real-time monitoring.
- Participate in incident reviews, contributing automation solutions to prevent future occurrences.
- Document code, processes, and usage guidelines to ensure maintainability and knowledge sharing.
- Support the migration of legacy VBA tools to modern platforms like PowerShell, Python, and Power BI.
- Assist Senior Engineers in managing hardware and software life cycles to avoid end-of-life issues.
- Support project work streams and ensure timely execution of deliverables.
- Maintain technical documentation to accurately reflect the installed environment.
- Develop collaborative relationships within the IT division, both locally and globally.
- Participate in the on-call support rota for after-hours IT system support.
- Ongoing development of technical skills relevant to the role, with a commitment to policy adherence.
- Occasional international travel may be required.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems.
- Proficient in VBA development within Excel and Access environments.
- Familiarity with Cloud/SaaS technologies, specifically Microsoft Azure.
- Understanding of IT operations, infrastructure monitoring, and incident management workflows.
- Experience integrating VBA with external systems such as REST APIs and SQL databases.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of scripting languages for automation (e.g., PowerShell).
- Understanding of security concepts applicable to the platform estate.
- Experience in managing and troubleshooting complex Windows environments and Active Directory.
- A good understanding of virtualized computing environments and enterprise datacentre technologies.
