Job Title: Building and Fire Safety Project Manager

Location: Hybrid - regular site visits required

Contract Type: Contract Reporting to: Senior Management Overview: Westminster City Council (WCC) is seeking a highly skilled Building and Fire Safety Project Manager to oversee projects that improve and maintain building safety and fire risk compliance across its property portfolio. This hybrid role combines remote working with regular site inspections, with responsibility for ensuring that all activities meet the latest safety regulations, best practices, and council standards.

The Project Manager will lead on building safety improvements, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure effective risk management and regulatory compliance at every stage of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver building and fire safety projects from initiation through to completion.

Ensure compliance with building safety, fire safety, and housing safety legislation (including the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Act).

Lead on risk identification, mitigation, and reporting across the building portfolio.

Coordinate safety-related inspections, remedial works, and reporting.

Maintain project documentation and compliance records.

Engage and manage external consultants, contractors, and specialist advisors.

Act as the primary point of contact for building safety and fire safety issues.

Monitor project budgets, timelines, and quality standards related to safety works. Provide expert advice and updates to senior management and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Professional Memberships: Professional membership with a recognised body such as CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building), IFE (Institution of Fire Engineers), RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), or equivalent.

A degree or diploma in a relevant safety, building surveying, or risk management discipline (desirable). Evidence of ongoing professional development in building and fire safety. Strong understanding of fire risk assessments, building safety case reports, and the Golden Thread requirements.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Significant experience managing building and fire safety compliance projects.

Strong understanding of current building safety, fire safety, and housing standards and regulations.

Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Excellent project planning, coordination, and risk management abilities.

Ability to interpret technical safety reports, fire strategies, and risk assessments.

Attention to detail and commitment to high compliance and safety standards. Strong leadership skills to coordinate internal and external teams.

Proficiency with project management and compliance reporting tools.
