A leading building services consultancy in London is seeking an experienced and visionary Principal Electrical Design Engineer to drive the electrical design strategy across complex and high-profile projects. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a seasoned engineer to take ownership of design excellence, guide multi-disciplinary teams, and influence the growth and technical direction of the practice.
About the Role
As Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead and oversee electrical design across a broad portfolio of projects, from concept to completion, ensuring innovative, compliant, and sustainable solutions. You will act as a technical authority, mentoring senior and junior engineers, liaising with clients, and setting standards for best practice across the team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and oversee all aspects of electrical design for building services projects.
* Act as technical authority, providing guidance on complex and high-value projects.
* Review and approve detailed calculations, specifications, and drawings.
* Ensure seamless MEP coordination and integration with other disciplines.
* Represent the consultancy in client meetings, design reviews, and presentations.
* Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, fostering technical excellence.
* Stay at the forefront of legislation, industry standards, and emerging technologies.
* Drive sustainable and low-carbon design initiatives across projects.
Requirements:
* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
* Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in electrical building services design within UK consultancy.
* Expert knowledge of relevant standards (BS7671, CIBSE, Part L) and design software (Amtech, Dialux/Relux, AutoCAD/Revit desirable).
* Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status highly desirable.
