We're seeking a highly drivenSenior Software Developerto join our expanding IT team. Under the guidance of the IT Director, this role will be responsible for developing both internal and external applications while overseeing the management of UK business systems, all within strict operational timelines. Working closely with the IT Director and management teams, the Senior Software Engineer will continuously review and enhance applications to ensure they align with the evolving needs of the business. This position spans the full software development lifecycle, from gathering initial user requirements and design to development, testing, and ongoing maintenance.


The Role & Responsibilities

The Senior Software Developer will play a key role in delivering a best-in-class system and support service for both internal and external users, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.


The responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain software applications for project revenue and cost tracking/forecasting.
  • Build and support applications that complement and integrate with the existing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) HR system to enhance back-office functionality.
  • Create and maintain multi-level financial reports to support business decision-making.
  • Ensure seamless integration of bespoke applications with Finance, HR, and Expense systems and maintain ongoing enhancements.
  • Design and maintain reports for various back-office functions.
  • Provide support for macro-enabled Office documents actively used across the business.
  • Perform basic on-premises SQL Server administration tasks.
  • Lead the transition of integration points from a traditional data stack to a modern, cloud-based architecture.


Essential skills:

  • Solid background in software development with a track record of delivering robust, scalable solutions
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritise tasks
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, alongside strong numerical capability
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and manage multiple tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated with a proactive, solution-focused mindset


Technical Proficiencies:

  • C# with ASP.NET (Web Forms), Web Services, and Windows Services
  • Microsoft SQL Serverdatabase development, data modelling, and multi-database querying
  • Report generation tools such as SSRS, Crystal Reports, or similar
  • Experienced with Azure DevOps
  • Solid understanding of system integration principles and practices


Desirable skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server database administration and performance tuning
  • Skilled in optimising SQL queries and ensuring database efficiency
  • Familiarity with financial terminology and standard finance practices
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Knowledge of Azure Service Bus for cloud-based messaging and integration
  • Industry experience in construction, architecture, or engineering is beneficial but not required
