Sustainability Consultant - LCA

A leading building services and sustainability consultancy is seeking a Sustainability Consultant with a strong focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to join its growing London-based team. This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility between remote and in-office work, while supporting a diverse portfolio of projects across commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments.

Role Overview

The Sustainability Consultant will play a key role in delivering high-quality sustainability advice, with an emphasis on whole life carbon assessments, circular economy strategies, and materials performance across all stages of the building lifecycle. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders, they will ensure that sustainable design principles and net zero carbon targets are embedded into project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) using tools such as OneClick LCA or eTool, aligned with LETI, RICS, and GLA guidance.
  • Provide Whole Life Carbon (WLC) analysis for new and existing developments.
  • Support the development of circular economy statements, materials strategies, and embodied carbon reporting.
  • Contribute to planning submissions, including sustainability statements and carbon reports.
  • Collaborate with MEP engineers, architects, and project managers to embed sustainable practices from concept through to construction.
  • Stay abreast of evolving sustainability legislation, standards, and best practice, particularly in the UK and London-specific policy landscape.
  • Communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support internal knowledge sharing and thought leadership on low-carbon design and sustainable construction.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting LCAs in the built environment sector.
  • Familiarity with relevant LCA tools such as OneClick LCA, eTool, or SimaPro.
  • Understanding of UK planning policy, including GLA guidance, LETI targets, RIBA 2030, and UKGBC frameworks.
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment, ideally within building services or sustainability.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of BREEAM, NABERS UK, Passivhaus, or other certification frameworks.
  • Experience with embodied carbon optioneering or materials databases.
  • Chartership or working towards chartered status (e.g. CIBSE, IEMA, etc.)
