My client, a leading international wealth management group, is seeking to hire a highly experienced and proactive Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to join them on a permanent basis. This individual will play a key role in strengthening their AML/CTF framework, driving best practices, and ensuring ongoing compliance with financial crime regulations. In due course, the successful candidate will assume the SMF17 responsibility after a period of transtion.

My client has a preference for candiates who have worked in the Wealth Management Sector previously and have held the designated SMF17 MLRO role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the firm’s MLRO, holding primary responsibility for the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) framework.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all internal and external AML/CTF matters, including engagement with the FCA and law enforcement agencies.
  • Submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the NCA and maintain appropriate records.
  • Oversee and enhance the firm’s AML/CTF policies, procedures, systems, and controls.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the financial crime risk assessment, particularly in relation to high-risk jurisdictions.
  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to staff on AML/CTF and financial crime compliance.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging risks, regulatory changes, and typologies impacting financial crime compliance.
  • Prepare and deliver regular MI and reports to the Board and relevant governance committees.
  • Support and coordinate AML audits, regulatory reviews, and internal assessments.

Prior experience:

  • Proven experience as an MLRO within a regulated financial services firm, ideally in wealth management or private banking or related sector.
  • Strong knowledge of UK AML regulations, including the Money Laundering Regulations, Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), and FCA Handbook.
  • Demonstrable experience managing financial crime risks associated with clients in high-risk jurisdictions.
  • Previous or current SMF17 approval is advantageous; readiness to assume the role is essential.
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior management, regulators, and third-party providers.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and communication skills.
  • Relevant qualifications such as ICA Diploma in AML, CAMS, or equivalent are preferred.
