Overview:

We're working with a major financial services/insurance organisation seeking an experienced Business Risk Manager to support the oversight and enhancement of operational risk and internal control frameworks. This role sits within the second line of defence and plays a key part in shaping risk culture, reporting, and governance across the group.

This is a hands-on, strategic role ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about improving risk processes, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Risk Oversight

  • Review and challenge risk profiles, KRIs, and incident responses across business units.
  • Support the development of a consistent and effective approach to risk appetite, control assessments, and risk indicators.
  • Collaborate with first-line teams to ensure risks outside appetite are addressed with clear action plans and governance.
  • Identify opportunities to digitise and automate risk processes for greater efficiency and insight.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the quarterly RCSA process and transition from legacy frameworks.

Governance & Reporting

  • Provide input into executive and board-level risk reporting, including key regulatory and internal submissions.
  • Support the facilitation of risk committees, ensuring agendas, papers, and discussions are focused and impactful.
  • Help refresh the group's view of emerging and top risks, engaging stakeholders across the business.

Culture & Collaboration

  • Promote a proactive, risk-aware culture across all levels of the organisation.
  • Maintain strong relationships across all three lines of defence to ensure alignment and reduce silos.
  • Contribute to the development of risk policies, templates, and tools.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in operational/non-financial risk within financial services or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Confident producing high-quality risk reports and governance papers.
  • Experience with thematic risk reviews and assurance activities.
  • Familiarity with ESG risk considerations and eGRC systems is a plus.
  • Self-starter with a flexible, solutions-focused mindset.
