Are you a strategic, solution-focused finance professional ready to make a real impact across multiple schools?

A thriving federation of five primary schools in the heart of Westminster is seeking a Director of Finance to lead on all financial and business operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the ongoing financial health and strategic growth of our schools, which serve richly diverse communities and are led by an experienced and visionary executive headteacher.

About the RoleThis is not a typical School Business Manager role. You will be a key member of the senior leadership team (SLT), working closely with the executive headteacher and governing bodies to manage financial planning, compliance, and reporting across all five schools and any new schools that may join the federation. You'll also oversee key aspects of HR administration and operational compliance, while leading a team of experienced office managers who carry out day-to-day administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic financial leadership across all schools in the federation

  • Budget planning, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting

  • Ensuring compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements

  • Oversight of payroll and HR record keeping

  • Leading procurement and contract negotiations to ensure value for money

  • Supporting governance and advising on financial matters

  • Collaborating on long-term school improvement and sustainability plans

What We're Looking For

  • Relevant financial qualifications (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

  • Strong experience in financial management; experience in schools is advantageous but not essential

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills

  • A proactive, solutions-driven mindset and ability to work at both strategic and operational levels

  • Commitment to the values and vision of inclusive, high-achieving education
