Local Government Interim | 3 - 6 Months | Head of Finance (Homes & Communities) | London | £750 per day

Castlefield Recruitment are currently partnered with a London Authoirty that are looking to recruit a Head of Finance to oversee the Homes & Communities team. Please find below an outline of the position, this position requires someone who has worked in a similar position within Local Government

  • Leadership & Team ManagementLead and manage the Homes & Communities Finance Teams within Financial Management, providing strategic financial direction, business partnering, and comprehensive support to a range of Council services and Directorates.

  • Support Transformation & ProjectsProvide robust financial input into transformation programmes and business-led projects across Homes & Communities. Ensure timely financial information is available for decision-making, actively shaping project outcomes, and realigning budgets to meet savings targets, reporting any timing differences in delivery.

  • Budgetary Accountability & ComplianceEnsure Senior Management and budget holders are fully supported in delivering their financial responsibilities. Ensure compliance with Financial Standing Orders and all other relevant financial policies and procedures, as directed by the Director of Corporate Finance.

  • Strategic Financial PlanningDeliver financial leadership and strategic advice to directorates, enabling the development of robust financial plans that align with the Council’s Medium-Term Financial Forecast (MTFF) and reflect the future needs of the service.

  • High-Quality Financial AdviceProvide accurate, timely, and high-quality financial advice and information to Corporate Directors, Heads of Service, and budget managers. Foster a self-service culture for day-to-day budget management, supported by strategic business partnering.

  • Financial Modelling & ForecastingLead financial modelling for demand-led budgets within Homes & Communities, ensuring robust forecasting in collaboration with senior service managers. Use trend analysis to inform MTFF and support data-driven financial decisions.

  • Statutory & Regulatory ComplianceSupport statutory accounting processes, external audit requirements, and ensure directorates are prepared for legislative changes with potential financial impact.

  • Internal Collaboration & DevelopmentWork collaboratively with colleagues across the Finance Directorate to support the production of strategic financial outputs, MTFF development, and the training and upskilling of the wider Corporate Finance team.

  • External Engagement & RepresentationBuild and maintain effective external relationships with key stakeholders, including community organisations, government bodies, professional institutions, and public/private partners to maintain knowledge and drive continuous service improvement.
