Role Overview:

I am looking for an ambitious and driven Private Client Tax Assistant Manager to join the growing Private Client Tax team. This role offers the exciting opportunity to manage a well-established compliance portfolio while working closely with senior team members and partners on complex tax advisory projects. For the right candidate, this role offers direct client and external contact, as well as fast-track promotion opportunities based on merit.

Job Description:

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of approximately 180 private clients, including high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), non-domiciled individuals, LLPs, business owners, and partnerships.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of junior team members, ensuring the high-quality delivery of self-assessment tax returns and providing constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Handling tax queries and acting as the primary point of contact for clients.
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and assisting in the delivery of advisory projects, including residency and domicile issues, capital gains tax planning, inheritance tax planning, and trust structuring.
  • Managing complex HMRC investigations in regard to personal tax matters, businesses, and tax avoidance schemes, including drafting disclosures to HMRC under the WDF (Worldwide Disclosure Facility).
  • Keeping up to date with changes in tax legislation and contributing to internal technical discussions.

Person specifications - Desirable Experience and Skills:

Experience:

  • Proven ability to independently manage a Private Client Tax compliance portfolio, acting as the key point of contact for clients, ensuring timely completion of tax returns, maintaining a high standard of work, and liaising with clients to meet their needs.
  • Comfortable building and maintaining strong client relationships, providing clear, practical tax advice, and managing client expectations throughout the process.
  • Broad understanding of UK tax legislation, including Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, and Trusts.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team, supporting junior staff, contributing to a positive team environment, and maintaining a proactive and upbeat approach to challenges.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will be ATT qualified. While not essential, candidates who are CTA qualified, or pursuing their CTA studies, would be highly desirable. The firm offers study support for applicants wishing to complete their CTA qualifications.

Software:

  • Proficiency in CCH software for tax preparation is highly desirable. Familiarity with other tax-related software tools is an advantage.
  • A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).

Working Arrangements:

  • The working week: 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday) to be worked from 09:30-17:30 with occasional flexibility to meet specific work demands.
