We are seeking a competent and experienced Food Safety Officer to join the council's Public Protection team on an interim basis. The role focuses on delivering statutory food hygiene functions during a period of organisational transition, requiring an officer who can hit the ground running.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out programmed food hygiene inspections in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice (risk categories A-E).
- Respond to service requests, including complaints about food premises, hygiene standards, and alleged food poisoning.
- Undertake enforcement activity including the service of notices, closures, and evidence gathering for legal proceedings where appropriate.
- Provide clear advice and guidance to businesses and stakeholders to support legal compliance.
- Input into the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS), including revisits and appeals.
- Liaise effectively with internal departments and external agencies.
Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health.
- EHRB Certificate or equivalent FLCOP-compliant competency to undertake food hygiene inspections.
- Up-to-date CPD and inspection competency logs.
- Strong understanding of food law, enforcement protocols, and local authority procedures.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage workload effectively.
