Behaviour / SEMH Mentor - Secondary School - Waltham Forest

Full Time | Term Time Only | November 2025 Start
Up to 115 per day | Long Term Role (Temp to Perm)

Long Term Futures are working with a supportive and well-structured secondary school in Waltham Forest to appoint a SEMH / Behaviour Mentor to support students across KS3 and KS4.

The role is focused on improving student engagement, managing behaviour, and providing targeted support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You'll work both in and out of lessons, ensuring students are regulated, focused, and working towards clear progress goals.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in youth work, SEMH support, or school-based behaviour mentoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH or behavioural challenges
  • Provide in-class support and de-escalation where needed
  • Assist with reintegration following exclusions or time out of class
  • Monitor student progress, behaviour targets and emotional wellbeing
  • Support with attendance, punctuality, and pastoral interventions
  • Liaise with pastoral, SEN and safeguarding teams

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting students with SEMH, behaviour or pastoral needs
  • A calm, consistent and supportive approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to implement de-escalation strategies and restorative practices
  • Background in secondary education, youth mentoring or alternative provision is desirable

  • Easily accessible via Walthamstow Central, Leytonstone and Blackhorse Road
