Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Fibre Engineer with hands-on experience in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting Underground (UG) fibre networks. This position might involves working within Optical Distribution Frames (ODF), OCR, and OFR. The successful candidate will need to be able to work in confined spaces such as manholes and chambers and will have the relevant certifications to perform the tasks required within these environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, splice, and test fibre optic cables within the UG network infrastructure.
- Build and maintain underground fibre optic infrastructure
- Work within confined spaces, such as manholes and chambers, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Interpret and follow job packs, technical diagrams, and fibre network schematics.
- Perform fibre testing, fault-finding, and troubleshooting using equipment like OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer).
- Document and report all work completed, including as-built records and daily reports.
- Collaborate with supervisors, planners, and other engineers to ensure the project is completed on time and to the required standard.
Essential Qualifications & Certifications:
- N23/N26 - Fibre Optic Network Build & Splicing (Fibre Installation, Splicing, and Testing)
- SA002 - Underground Safety (Confined Space Entry)
- N031 - Working within Optical Distribution Frames (ODF) (Fibre Infrastructure Management and Maintenance within ODF)
- N04 - Working within an OCR
- J010 - Working within an OFR
- CSCS Card - Construction Skills Certification Scheme
- Confined Space Training - Certification for safe entry into confined spaces like manholes, chambers, etc.
- Full UK driving licence (with no more than 6 penalty points)
Key Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in the installation and maintenance of underground fibre networks, including work within ODF, OCR, and OFR.
- Skilled in fibre splicing, fibre testing (e.g., OTDR), and network fault diagnostics.
- Competence in working with ducting systems, underground chambers, and manhole access.
- Familiarity with fibre connectorisation, splicing techniques, and fibre infrastructure management.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, network designs, and work packs.
- High standards of health and safety awareness and a commitment to operational procedures and safety guidelines.
Desirable:
- PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access) experience.
- First Aid at Work Certification.
- Additional qualifications in fibre optic technologies or network infrastructure.
