Job Title – Housing Review OfficerLocation – Kingston (hybrid working options available)Contract – Temporary (ongoing contract)Hours – Full time, 36 hours per weekRole summary –We are currently recruiting for a Housing Review Officer to work on behalf of a local authority in Kingston. This role involves conducting statutory reviews under Part 6 and 7 of the Housing Act 1996, ensuring decisions are legally robust and issued within set timeframes. You will be the key contact for legal challenges, appeals, and s.202 reviews, and work closely with legal teams and advocates.Salary – £34.88 LTD - £26.96 PAYEKey Responsibilities:
  • Carry out thorough investigations and reviews under Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act 1996, including s.202 reviews.
  • Ensure all decisions are fully compliant with legislation, case law, and policy.
  • Handle legal challenges, including judicial reviews and s.204 County Court Appeals.
  • Mentor and train colleagues on statutory requirements and robust decision-making.
  • Write detailed, legally compliant decision letters and Mohammed case law responses.
  • Maintain accurate records on relevant IT systems and contribute to service improvements.
  • Liaise with legal services, prepare court documentation, and represent the Council as required.
Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and related legislation.
  • Proven experience conducting s.202 reviews and responding to legal challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret case law and translate it into practice.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload to strict deadlines.
  • Proficient with IT systems used in housing services.
