About the Role

This Digital Flagship organisation are seeking a highly skilled Senior QA Data Engineer with strong experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join their data engineering team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional passionate about data quality, automation, and cloud-based architectures. The role is Inside IR35.

You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and robustness of our data pipelines and products. You’ll collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to implement automated tests, monitor data quality, and enforce best QA practices across our data stack.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement automated testing frameworks for data pipelines and transformations

  • Develop and maintain test suites for ETL/ELT processes using GCP services (e.g., BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer)

  • Conduct root cause analysis and drive resolutions for data quality issues

  • Work closely with data engineering and analytics teams to define quality metrics and standards

  • Implement data profiling, validation, and anomaly detection mechanisms

  • Monitor production pipelines and troubleshoot data issues using logs and metrics

  • Enforce CI/CD and DevOps practices around data QA in cloud environments

Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years in data engineering or data QA roles, with a focus on data quality and testing

  • Proven experience with Google Cloud Platform (especially BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub)

  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale data sets

  • Proficiency in Python for data validation, scripting, and automation

  • Experience with testing tools/frameworks (e.g., Great Expectations, pytest, dbt tests)

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and DevOps principles

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote environment

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Nice to Have
  • Experience with Airflow or other orchestration tools

  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and tools

  • Familiarity with Looker, Tableau, or similar BI platforms

  • Previous experience in data-sensitive industries
