An outstanding independent primary school in Islington is seeking an exceptional Year 6 Teacher to join the team from September 2025. This is a unique opportunity to take on a dual role that also includes leading Maths across the school as Head of Maths.

From September 2025, the school will be welcoming its first-ever Year 6 class, making this a rare opportunity for a dynamic and ambitious teacher to help shape and lead the final year of the school's prep journey. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher and Head of English to develop engaging schemes of work, prepare pupils for the 11+ and scholarship exams, and deliver an exciting enrichment programme post-assessments.

Key Responsibilities

Year 6 Class Teacher

  • Lead a small Year 6 class and prepare pupils for 11+ exams, interviews, and transition to senior schools.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and creative lesson design using both the National Curriculum and the school's thematic curriculum.
  • Provide a high level of individual support to pupils of all abilities, including EAL and those with SEND.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and support pupils' wellbeing and academic progress.

Head of Maths

  • Oversee the Maths curriculum across the school, from Reception to Year 6.
  • Ensure excellent teaching and consistency in Maths provision, including high-quality resources and schemes of work.
  • Support colleagues in developing confidence and skill in Maths teaching, particularly stretching able pupils beyond the National Curriculum.
  • Lead internal assessments and analyse data to inform teaching and progression.
  • Organise enrichment opportunities such as Maths competitions and themed events that foster a love of Maths.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Proven experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2
  • Strong knowledge of Maths teaching and curriculum design
  • Experience in preparing pupils for 11+ assessments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A nurturing, enthusiastic, and flexible approach

Desirable:

  • Experience as a Maths subject leader
  • Familiarity with independent school expectations and entry processes
  • Competence using assessment and tracking software
