SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Tower Hamlets
Contract: Full-time, Long-term
Start date: January 2026
A welcoming and supportive primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from January. This role involves providing 1:1 support for a child with significant SEND and behavioural needs.
The Role
In this SEMH Teaching Assistant role you will be primarily supporting a Year 3 pupil who is currently at risk of exclusion and requires constant supervision. The child is attending school on a reduced timetable and is currently being supported by the Senior Leadership Team and SENDCo. You will play a key role in taking over this support and helping the school develop a consistent, structured plan for the pupil’s progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with complex SEMH and SEND needs.
- Work flexibly across the school, including within the ASD provision when the pupil is not in class.
- Support students across all key stages as needed to access learning, engage with activities, and integrate alongside their peers.
- Use a proactive, hands-on approach to behaviour support and emotional regulation.
The school is looking for SEMH Teaching Assistant who has the following:
- Previous experience working with children with SEMH or complex SEND needs (essential).
- The ability to build positive, trusting relationships quickly.
- Be confident, resilient, and calm under pressure.
- A Flexible approach and be willing to support across different key stages depending on need.
- A passion for inclusion and a commitment to helping children overcome barriers to learning.
