Behaviour Mentor – Alternative Provision (SEMH) – Brent

Are you experienced in supporting young people with SEMH, SEBD or ASD needs? Do you have a background in managing challenging behaviour, small-group teaching, or providing 1:1 support? Do you hold Team Teach or MAPA training? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We are working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Brent that supports secondary-aged pupils who have been excluded, or are at risk of exclusion, from mainstream education. The school provides a highly personalised and therapeutic learning environment for young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.

The successful Behaviour Mentor will join a dedicated team in an outstanding setting with an international reputation for its expertise in special education, specialist curriculum design and high-quality resources.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Support secondary pupils (KS3–KS4) with SEMH, SEBD and challenging behaviour.

  • Build strong, positive relationships with young people and staff to encourage engagement and progress.

  • Use excellent behaviour management strategies to promote a calm, safe learning environment.

  • Deliver or cover lessons when required, supporting pupils across a range of subjects.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers to plan and deliver appropriate activities based on individual education plans.

  • Assess pupils with long- or short-term learning difficulties and support colleagues in identifying individual needs.

  • Liaise with external professionals, including social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH, EBD or mental health needs.

  • Strong understanding of SEN and behaviour support within an Alternative Provision or special school environment.

  • Confident behaviour management skills.

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.

  • Classroom experience and the ability to teach/cover a variety of lessons.

  • Team Teach / MAPA training (desirable).

  • A current DBS on the Update Service.
