Long Term Futures is looking for a caring and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:2 support in Reception for two pupils with additional needs: one child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and another with Down Syndrome (DS). This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about Early Years and experienced in supporting children with communication, learning, and social development needs.

About the Role

  • You will split your time across two children, offering structured support to meet their individual needs. Your day-to-day will include:
  • Providing 1:1 and 1:2 support to help pupils access Reception learning activities.
  • Using visual timetables, sensory play, and communication aids to encourage independence.
  • Supporting social interaction, play skills, and classroom routines.
  • Offering encouragement and consistency to manage transitions and emotional regulation.
  • Assisting with personal care sensitively and appropriately.
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and therapists to adapt strategies and track progress.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience supporting children with ASD, Down Syndrome, or other complex needs, ideally in Early Years.
  • Understanding of speech and language approaches and non-verbal communication strategies.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable personality.
  • Comfortable providing intimate care where required.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young children at the start of their school journey.
