Long Term Futures is seeking a confident and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Early Years team in a welcoming primary school in Barnet. This role involves providing 1:1 support for a Reception pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who experiences emotional dysregulation and is non-verbal. The pupil benefits from a calm, consistent adult who can provide structure, reassurance, and active support throughout the school day.

About the Role

This is a rewarding position for someone who thrives in a hands-on, practical environment and enjoys building strong relationships through patience and positive reinforcement. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing calm, consistent 1:1 support to a child with ASD and behaviour-related challenges.
  • Using structured routines, visual supports, and sensory strategies to encourage engagement.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and managing behaviour safely and professionally.
  • Assisting with physical guidance and transitions when needed to help the pupil move around the setting confidently.
  • Working closely with the SENCo, class teacher, and specialists to implement consistent approaches.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience supporting children with ASD or behavioural needs, ideally in an Early Years or primary setting.
  • Calm, confident, and able to maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Physically capable of offering safe assistance when required.
  • Patient, positive, and proactive - a steady presence who helps pupils feel secure.
