Teaching Assistant

Barking & Dagenham

Year 1 (Autism)

SANZA Teaching Agency are recruiting on behalf of a 3-form entry primary school in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

They are looking for a teaching assistant to work with a year 1 pupil on a 1:1 basis. The pupil has Autism.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support during lessons, playtime and activities.
  • Assist the student with all aspects of class work and learning, including breaking down of instructions and help maintaining focus.
  • Use simple, structured strategies to support communication and emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to plan and review progress.
  • Encourage independence and celebrate small steps of growth.
  • Keep clear and supportive notes about learning and behaviour when needed.

About you:

  • Experience as a teaching assistant, particularly Autism
  • A patient, warm and consistent approach to behaviour and communication.
  • Ability to build trust and positive relationships
  • Good listening skills and clear communication with staff and families.
  • Willingness to learn new approaches (training will be provided).
