Portfolio Payroll are pleased to be supporting a rapidly growing start-up Payroll Bureau who are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking and commercial Payroll Manager to join them at a pivotal point in the company's growth.

As Payroll Manager, you will take the lead in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and play a key role in the creation of the payroll function, with the support of a Payroll Administrator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the onboarding of new clients, designing and implementing payroll processes from the ground up.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant payroll delivery across a growing portfolio of clients.
  • Build and develop a high-performing payroll team, setting the standard for service excellence and team culture.
  • Collaborate with leadership to shape the bureau's long-term strategy, tools, and processes.
  • Identify automation opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on all things payroll - from legislation to software.

Experience required:

  • Proven payroll expertise gained within a bureau environment
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Proficient in payroll software
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
