Overview:
Blue Pelican is working in partnership with a respected NHS Trust in London to recruit a Senior Network Engineer. This is a critical role for an experienced network professional to lead the Trust’s day-to-day IT network operations, infrastructure security, and project delivery.
You will manage LAN, WAN, WiFi, VMware environments, firewalls, and server infrastructure, ensuring high performance, resilience, and compliance across a large and complex healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Trust’s Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, WiFi, and VMware environments
- Configure, monitor and maintain servers, network switches, firewalls, and desktop equipment
- Provide technical expertise in network design, performance tuning, and capacity planning
- Implement changes in collaboration with the Network Security Manager
- Support and lead IT infrastructure projects across the Trust
- Maintain and manage multiple firewall systems (Fortigate, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Sophos)
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity protocols and Trust IT security policies
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for network-related incidents
- Produce technical documentation and SLA reporting
- Support and mentor desktop engineers and wider IT support teams
Requirements:
Essential Qualifications & Certifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Networking or related subject
- Postgraduate IT qualifications
- Cisco CCNA / HPE Networking certifications
- Firewall Certifications in Fortigate, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, or Sophos
Desirable Certifications:
- Cisco CyberOps Associate
- CCNP
- Azure Network Engineer Associate
- PRINCE2
- Cloud Certifications (AWS/Azure)
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience in managing large-scale IT network infrastructure
- Strong hands-on knowledge of core switching, BGP routing, VoIP, and QoS
- Experience with VMware, backup systems, and cyber security tools
- Comfortable leading technical projects and working with cross-functional teams
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable:
- Previous NHS experience
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix, Windows Server, Active Directory
- Experience with patch management and network monitoring systems
- Familiarity with cloud networking (Azure, AWS)
