Role Overview - System Safety Engineer


We're seeking a seasoned System Safety Engineer with the technical depth and leadership to drive safety assurance across complex rail projects. You'll be a key part of a specialist safety team, working alongside designers and delivery partners to ensure that every aspect of our project meets rigorous safety standards.
Your commercial acumen and strategic thinking will be vital in shaping and implementing practical, business-aligned safety solutions. You'll not only support the project with your own expertise but also help develop the wider team's capability-bringing insight, mentorship, and technical authority to the table.



CV Essentials


  • Proven experience delivering Safety Assurance and Safety Cases for railway systems.

  • Deep understanding and hands-on application of CENELEC standards (EN 50126/50129/50716).

  • Strong grasp of safety legislation, including ROGS, and its application in the metro/rail sector.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex safety risk assessments using a variety of recognised methods.


Essential Skills


  1. Expertise in system safety analysis and risk assessment within railway environments.

  2. In-depth knowledge of CENELEC standards and national/international safety frameworks.

  3. Strategic thinking and communication skills to engage stakeholders at all levels, including regulators.


Desirable Skills


  1. Experience working directly with industry regulators on complex safety matters.

  2. Strong capability in leading or mentoring multi-disciplinary safety teams.

  3. Familiarity with engineering safety management in a systems integration context.


Preferred Background / Sector Experience


We're particularly interested in candidates with a background in metro or heavy rail projects, especially those who have led or contributed to major infrastructure programmes. Experience in managing safety across system changes or infringement works is highly desirable.
