Job Title: Data Centre Technician

Location: Acton, London Schedule: 09:00-17:00 | Mon – Fri

Role Overview:

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Centre Technician to join their mission-critical infrastructure team. This hands-on technical role is central to ensuring the operational integrity and performance of their data centre environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous support of hardware, network equipment, and structured cabling systems within our clients state-of-the-art data centre facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Support & Maintenance:

  • Deliver high-quality break-fix support across hardware, servers, network infrastructure, and power systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair server components at the system board level.
  • Monitor system performance and respond promptly to incidents, escalating where necessary to ensure timely resolution.

Installation & Deployment:

  • Perform end-to-end hardware installations, including server rack deployment, structured cabling, and network setups.
  • Assist in planning and executing the commissioning of new racks and white space layouts within the data centre.
  • Work in collaboration with deployment teams to support new capacity planning and infrastructure expansions.

Cabling & Infrastructure:

  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling (fiber and copper).
  • Troubleshoot and replace defective cabling and hardware with minimal disruption to services.
  • Maintain a clean and organized data centre environment, adhering to safety and operational standards.

Operational Duties:

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and be available to respond to incidents within a 60-minute radius of the data centre site.
  • Use internal ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) to manage incident and service request queues, adhering to SLA requirements.
  • Ensure all work complies with Oracle’s Change Management and Operations policies, including OCI protocol adherence.

Cross Functional Collaboration:

  • Liaise effectively with internal teams such as Networking, Compute, Compliance, and Business Operations to support infrastructure needs.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of all physical assets, cabling diagrams, and maintenance logs.
  • Use internal reporting tools to document actions, updates, and changes clearly and in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Prior experience working in a high-availability data centre environment (Tier III or above preferred).
  • Solid understanding of server, storage, and networking hardware.
  • Strong hands-on experience with structured cabling standards and tools.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic equipment.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL-based service delivery frameworks and ticketing systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as floor plans, rack layouts, and electrical schematics.
